16, this is the number of photographers who joined the team of The Encyclopedia of migrants. Since november 2015, in the 8 cities of the project, 2 photographers have the task to realize the portrait of people who will testify in The Encyclopedia. From a common method (initiated by Bertrand Cousseau and  Paloma Fernández Sobrino in previous projects as Partir) the 16 photographers are using their knowledges and their creativity to co-realize with each migrant person an image that will be include in the book with the intimate letter.

During the next weeks, you will discover the photographers involved in the project.

This week, you’ll discover the work of Camille Hervouet and Laurence Brassamin. They are working in Nantes, to realize the portraits of the 50 persons who will contribute to the Encyclopedia.

– Camille Hervouet –

Based on a trilogy: nature, architecture, inhabitants, the photographs made by Camille Hervouet question the sensitive relation within a territory, whether tangible or not. By creating a physical and a mental distance, she highlights the latent power of images, the duality between reality and fantasy.

It is based on a rigorous protocol induced by the technique of analogic photography that requires a long, slow temporality. If she revisits historical practices of institutional or amateur photography, it is to reveal and to interpret their generic nature and understand how it affects a period.

In the series of images whose composition reveals a singular or universal dimension of spaces and people, she tries to elucidate a tough reality. Meanwhile, she has continued her projects with Grégory Valton, around the feeling of love, expanding her research to new media as video, mapping or writing.

Curious, Laurence is fond of photography since her childhood. Her desire to learn and to discover the world lead her to follow a university course in humanities and to travel, particularly in Latin America. As she wants to continue his exploration of the world, she then moved to Canada and New Zealand with a working holiday visa. Carrying her camera everywhere, she documents her investigations and discoveries. Photography allows her to meet people, to explore new universes, to open doors. She improves her practice, professionalizes and today continues this work that combines humanities and photography, documenting the society and chronicling the everyday life.
